Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation Announces New Board Leadership

Sept 10, 2014

The Board of Trustees of the Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation today announced a new leadership structure, including a Board Chair and two Vice Chairs, to govern the organization as it grows to serve more pediatric research and education and community benefit programs. The Board moved to create this leadership team after the sudden death on July 1st of David K. Page, the Foundation's respected Board Chair.

The Board has elected Matt Friedman as its Chair. A Trustee since 2011, Friedman most recently has served as the Board's Chair of Fundraising and Development and Chair of the Foundation's $2 Million "Dream. Hope. Discover." Campaign. He previously served in leadership roles on the Children's Hospital of Michigan Board of Trustees from 2006 through 2010. His other community involvement includes current service as a Trustee of Legacy DMC.  Friedman is co-founder of Tanner Friedman Strategic Communications in Farmington Hills. He resides in West Bloomfield.

The Board has also elected Fred Minturn to a Vice Chair position. A Trustee since 2011, he currently serves as the Foundation's Treasurer and Chair of its Finance Committee.  Minturn is on the board of the Business Leaders for Michigan and has served in various publicly elected positions in the Grosse Pointes.  Minturn is President and CEO of MSX International, headquartered in Detroit.  He resides in Grosse Pointe Shores.

The Board also announced that Cynthia Ford will continue in the position of Vice Chair. A Trustee since the Foundation's inception in 2003, she is a past Board Chair and is an active volunteer leader in many local, regional and national organizations.  She resides in Grosse Pointe Farms.

"It is the highest possible honor to be chosen Chair by my colleagues on this outstanding Board, with a mission so close to my family's heart, to succeed David Page, a man I have long considered a role model," said Friedman. "Fred Minturn and Cynthia Ford bring extraordinary skill sets and experience which round out our ability to lead the strategy of this Foundation, as it grows to help more Michigan children have more days to play, nights to dream and time to just be kids."

"This Foundation is poised to establish itself, nationally, as a leader in funding programs that benefit children's health in ways that meet community needs like never before," said Tony Werner, President and CEO of the Foundation. "Three community leaders - Matt, Fred and Cynthia - will help our Board put our staff in a position to help kids in exceptional and innovative new ways."
